How Often Should You Change Your House Water Filter: Remember One Main Rule to Keep Your Family Healthy

Living in a city apartment is impossible without a filter: it removes harmful impurities, purifies the water from the tap, and makes it suitable for drinking. But does the filter have an expiration date, and how often should it be changed so as not to harm health?

Contrary to marketing gimmicks, most standard filters do not clear water crystal; they only reduce the content of metals, chlorine, and other harmful impurities. This is one of the reasons why it is necessary to change the water filter regularly. The frequency of changing the reverse osmosis system depends on several factors: the general quality of water in the region, the number of family members, and the type of cleaner and its capacity. Let’s take a closer look.

Under-sink water filter

Manufacturers usually specify the expiration date of cartridges in the operating instructions. For most sorption and reverse osmosis filters, replacement is provided every 6-12 months, so the water supplied to the house is not too dirty and brutal. Otherwise, the service life is reduced to 3 months.

When upgrading a water purification system, it is not enough to replace only the pre-filter cartridges; it is much more important to assess the condition of the membrane, the central part of the system that removes bacteria from the water at the final stage. If you have been using the filter for over a year, buying a new membrane is worth buying.

“I recommend changing filters every six months – completely, right down to the membrane and mineralizer,” notes RO Service in Patna, a heating, boilers, and plumbing specialist.

What does a reverse osmosis filter consist of?

“If it is a reverse osmosis system, then the first stage of purification will be mechanical. It removes sand, rust, and large particles up to 5 microns. The second stage is a carbon filter. It also removes chlorine and eliminates odours. Then, the water passes through a reverse osmosis membrane, which destroys various bacteria and impurities at the molecular level.

After this stage, we get “dead water” because almost no minerals are left. Then, it passes through a carbon block (usually pressed coke-activated carbon) to protect the membrane and remove residual chlorine, followed by a best-carbon cartridge and mineralizer.

The problem is that minerals disappear almost entirely from water after reverse osmosis, so you can’t drink it. Therefore, the filter needs a mineralizer to raise the mineral content of the water to a safe level safe level for the body.

How to change a flow filter in a few minutes

If you decide to update your under-sink filter, remember that you will have to reinstall all three cartridges at once, and you should contact RO service near me for help.

·         First, turn off the water. Then, release the pressure and open the tap.

  • We place a basin or bucket under the filter glasses; this way, when unscrewing them, excess water will not spill onto the floor.
  • We unscrew the glasses by hand or with a plastic key – it usually comes with new cartridges.
  • We thoroughly wash the inner walls of the flasks with dishwashing detergent and then check that we have entirely removed the gel with water.
  • The last step is to insert fresh filters, tighten the glasses’ lids, and test the installation for leaks (be sure to check the rubber band on the lid).
  • If everything goes according to plan, we enjoy clean drinking water.
